When our friend Meagan came to us about doing a photo shoot at a prison, we were excited for the edgy idea. With a stark contrast between beautiful brides against the historic prison's deteriorating interior, the concept was hard to say no to. The team at the Ohio State Reformatory invited us to do the photo shoot in the 132 year old prison (now museum) that claims fame to being the filming location of the amazing movie, The Shawshank Redemption.
We decided to have two couples highlighted in this photo shoot - a group of four friends that Meagan knew were up for the challenge of modeling in the "haunted" venue (OK - so it probably really is haunted) and we quickly put our ideas together. First up, Kara + Sam who brought their Harley Davidson with them as seen in the photo above. The chemistry between these two was stunning and their real love shined through in the photographs. Even though we were in the cold, lower level of the prison cells against chipping paint, cob webs and an incredible history we'll never understand, Kara + Sam easily showed off their happiness and closeness.
I loved the details from the single red rose, to the red velvet cupcake from Tres Belle Cakes in Cincinnati to the red Harley Davidson! This steamy elopement shoot was wonderful to be a part of. We especially loved the looks on people's faces that were actually there walking through the prison to take the historic tour. What? You've never seen wedding gowns in a prison before? Haha. Look at this photo of Kara in the spiral staircase. TO DIE FOR!
Kara + Sam were so much fun to work with and I think Laura of Perception Art Studio captured their relationship perfectly in these photos!
NOW - dragging around wedding gowns is already a struggle on any normal wedding day but try doing it at a prison, through dark and dusty hallways, stair cases and rooms with walls full of secrets - that's a different story! When we met Hannah + Alysha, they were so excited about the wedding gowns we picked out for them from BoChic Bridal Boutique in Cincinnati. They were definitely a pair of stunners and we couldn't wait to see these beauties in the Shawshank backdrop!
It's not even fair how amazing they looked. There was a lot of giggling between the two of them during this shoot and we feel like the two gowns together fit them individually but also went well as a pair. We created two bouquets of wild flowers for them, just pops of pinks and purples to really stand out. They even had a dark wedding cake and sweetheart table set for them as well as a beautiful set of invitations from eden + vine.
We are still swooning over these two! They were the perfect choice for bringing home this photo shoot. We felt like we got lost at some point running around all the halls of the original administrative building but with all of the layers of wall paper showing through, paint chips, tile floors coming up and random bright rooms, it was definitely an adventure!
